Q: What's a zine?
A: (taken from Zinewiki's page)
A zine - pronounced zeen - derived from magazine - is an independently- or self-published booklet, often created by a single person. Zines are customarily created by physically cutting and gluing text and images together onto a master flat for photocopying, but it is also common to produce the master by typing and formatting pages on a computer. The end product is usually folded and stapled. Zines can be printed and bound in any manner. Offset printing is a relatively common alternative to photocopying, though there is some controversy among zine writers as to whether professionally printed products may be defined as zines.

Q: Do you accept submissions?
A: Yes.  Many other distro's out there deal with the serious stuff and they are much better at it than we are.  Here at the Word we like to keep things light and airy.  Some topics we really enjoy include sex, sports, music, food, cats, work-zines, educational zines and general silliness.  We focus hard on text heavy zines, hence the name of the distro.  Things we tend to stay away from are mental health, politics, art/photo zines, comics, zines without staples and zines without words.  That doesn't mean we can't or won't take a look at your zine if it doesn't fit our profile so if you have any questions just email us at theworddistro@gmail.com

Q: Do you ship oversea's
A: We can.  Mail rates for international vary a great deal.  The best thing to do is contact us with what you want and where it's going and we can get you back a quote.

Q: Why print zines?
A: Why not?  Why let some stuffy publisher tell you what you can write about?  If you want to write about anarchism then do it.  Sex, religion, work - I've seen zines about them all.  I've seen zines about whale watching, hiking the Appalachian trail and the history of dentistry.  The sky is the limit when you're your own boss.  Plus it feels good to complete a work and I like the old school feel of reading off a piece of paper instead of a computer screen.
